Who are we?
OUT OF BOUNDS NATION, Inc., ("OOBN"), is a social enterprise legally structured as a public benefit company. It is also the FIRST for-profit small business incubator of a prison themed brand that assists those with a criminal past become successful entrepreneurs.
OOBN's mission is simple, provide those with a criminal past with the opportunity to become entrepreneurs and to achieve financial independence. Further, the small business incubator develops business leaders and spurs job creation in the communities these small business owners serve. Not only helping them, their families but the community as well.
As a public benefit company, we have made a public declaration to give a percentage of our profits to organizations that are in-line with the overall mission of OOBN, which is to provide second chances to those impacted by the criminal justice system.
OOBN currently launched several startup companies under this brand that are run by entrepreneurs who have, themselves, been affected by the criminal justice system. It's no secret, small business and entrepreneurs drive America and create opportunities.
Why are we involved in criminal justice reform as a for-profit public benefit company?
The reality is that after 3 years, 67% of felons who were released from prison return to prison. After 5 years that percentage rate increases to 76%. Further, they are approximately 44,000 legal barriers to Second Chances, with about $87 billion dollars in lost economic output by not allowing those with a criminal past to fully re-enter the workforce. 1 in 3 adults in America have a criminal past. There are over 70 million Americans with a criminal past and approximately 650,000 Americans leave prison each year with little to no assistance for them to become successful.
